Patients unhappy with 'disgusting' NHS food
Patients describe NHS hospital food as 'awful' and 'disgusting', according to a new report from Which?
According to the report, hospitals are failing to ask for, and respond to, feedback from patients.
The consumer charity surveyed 1000 NHS patients to compile the research, which reveals that just 42% of respondents thought that hospital food was healthy, and only 29% found it appetising.
A quarter of patients said that the food was so bad that they had to buy their meals from elsewhere.
21% of staff surveyed also said that they would not be happy eating the food served to patients.
However, the survey also found some positive responses to hospital food. One patient told the researchers that 'at another hospital the food was excellent with a good selection.'
Clare Corbett, health campaigner at Which? said: 'To put a stop to the hunger on our wards, hospitals must do more to encourage patients to give feedback, and act on what they say.'
