Questions and answers about private health insurance and Health-on-Line

Who are Health-on-Line?

We're an independent health insurance company. All of our policies are underwritten by AXA PPP healthcare and we are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA). Firm Reference number: 308776.

What's so different about health-on-line.co.uk?

As well as enabling you to arrange your private health insurance on-line, we also offer a unique modular approach that allows you to build your own personalised health insurance plan.

What sort of private healthcare treatment is covered?

Our Essential Cover plan provides in-patient, day patient treatment and out-patient surgical procedures for comprehensive range of minor and major conditions and illnesses, including MRI, CT and PET scans in a scanning centre listed in the Directory of Hospitals. You can add a range of specific treatments to Essential Cover such as physiotherapy, complimentary medicine and psychiatric support. Upgrading is simple and you can do it when arranging your cover, or at any renewal thereafter.

What isn't covered?

You won't receive cover for any pre-existing conditions, diagnosed in the previous five years or for any condition for which you had symptoms in that time. Private medical insurance is also not intended to provide cover for preventative treatment or long-term treatment of chronic conditions. For a full list of what is and what is not covered, you can download a sample copy of our member handbook.

How does the no claims discount work?

It's simple... for every year you don't claim, you'll earn a discount on your next year's premium. In fact, you can earn up to 50% no claims discount on your premium.

Which hospitals can I use?

We have a Directory of over 240 hospitals and day-patient units. These have been selected and approved by AXA PPP healthcare and provide a very high standard of comfort and care.

Once I take out my private health insurance with you, how do I receive treatment?

The process is very simple. If your GP refers you to a specialist you should check the treatment is eligible and that the specialist's fees will be paid in full. You can do this by calling a team of Personal Advisers. They will be able to confirm eligibility over the phone, meaning you don't have to worry about whether or not your claims will be paid. As soon as your treatment has been pre-authorised you can see your specialist. If you need further treatment you'll need to check again.

I already have private health insurance (private medical insurance) with another provider, how easy is it to switch to Health-on-Line?

Our Personal Choice Switch option could enable you to transfer your current individual private medical insurance (PMI) policy to a Health-on-Line Personal Choice policy with continued medical exclusions (CME), subject to your ability to agree to the following terms:

  1. You are not currently insured under a group private health insurance policy.

  2. You do not currently have a private health insurance policy or a private medical insurance (PMI) policy which is underwritten by AXA PPP healthcare.

  3. Neither you, nor anyone else to be insured under this private health insurance policy, has had treatment, investigations or tests in hospital or consulted a specialist in the last 12 months (this applies whether the treatment was received privately or under the National Health Service).

  4. Neither you, nor anyone else to be insured under this private health insurance policy, has any treatment, investigation or test planned or pending (this applies whether it is to be received privately or under the National Health Service).
