IT is a fundamental part of our growth

Friday, June 22, 2018

Since the establishment of Health-on-Line in 2000, our IT department have played a fundamental part in the success of the company and continue to do so today. We take great pride in developing all our systems in-house, as well as delivering IT solutions to support the rest of AXA PPP healthcare.

We therefore took some time out to speak to one of our Senior Test Analysts, Richard, to help you find out more about one of the vacancies we have to offer within our IT department and what type of team you could be joining;

Did you have experience as a tester previous to your current role?

"I have been working as a Software Tester for nearly ten years and started my career at Ageas (Formally RIAS). My first experience of testing was on a secondment where I was responsible for reviewing business processes flows and then writing test cases to match the flow. Based on that early experience I knew that I wanted to continue to work in Software Development and over time my role progressed to a full time Test Analyst."

What does your role entail?

"In a nutshell the role of a Test Analyst is to prove that the software under test is fit for purpose and that it meets the requirements of the business. This means that I am involved in the software development lifecycle from the original concept idea through to supporting the release of the finished product."

What responsibilities and opportunities has your role as a tester given you and how has it allowed you to grow?

"Working at Health-on-Line has always been an enjoyable challenge – One where I am always working to provide high standards of work, whilst meeting deadlines in order to deliver software that directly supports the growth of both Health-on-Line and AXA PPP healthcare. By working so closely with both the internal development team here at Health-on-Line as well as the wider AXA PPP healthcare group, I have been given the chance to influence not only the quality of the software produced but also how Health-on-Line as a company approach testing. For example, I have been part of the strategic enhancements to our ‘Agile’ development approach that supports the fast turn-around of high quality software that Health-on-Line are so good at."

"Since joining Health-on-Line, over two years ago, I have also been promoted to the position of Senior Test Analyst and I now lead testing on one of three development work-streams within IT. I am grateful to the management team within IT for recognising my passion for quality and rewarding me with this development opportunity."

"As part of my senior role, I have been able to mentor new colleagues as well as be responsible for writing, reviewing and executing test cases, giving estimations on how long testing will take, managing defects through to resolution, providing end of test reports, managing business resource during UAT and offering warranty period support after new software releases."

What is the environment like that you work in?

"Health-on-Line works on a trust basis, which means that I can manage my own time and make my own decisions on how to approach testing. This freedom is refreshing and has given me the chance to grow as a Test Analyst and really influence the approach to testing in a way that I have not been able to before. With a real team ethic towards software development, Health-on-Line also allows individuals to shine within a group and make a real difference, which is why I enjoy coming to work every day."

  • “Excellent customer service. The Heath plan was catered to my needs and requirements. I'm very impressed with the low price. Had I known how affordable health insurance was before I'd have taken it out years ago.”
