Being ranked the world number one tennis player in the women’s singles is no simple task, yet it seems to be all in a day’s work for reigning champion Serena Williams. With a multitude of tennis accolades to her name, we’re taking a look at the fuel that goes into powering such a decorated athlete.

Meals

In an interview with Bon Appétit, Serena discussed her favourite things to eat, which include a variety of tasty-sounding dishes including her mum’s chicken, rice and gravy, her very own roasted chicken with garlic and vegan sushi.

She also mentions that while competing in tournaments such as Wimbledon, her diet takes a strict turn for the healthy, particularly when carb-loading the night before a match with healthy foods such as quinoa and brown rice.

In an interview with Fitness Magazine, Serena explains how she tries to eat a healthy diet, including a lot of raw food in her daily meals, but still manages have time off from this to enjoy the foods she loves once in a while.

Training

In her Fitness Magazine interview, Serena talks about how variety is important to her when it comes to keeping fit, incorporating exercises such as yoga, running and dancing into her usual routine. In an interview with Body + Soul, Serena also discusses how her regular workouts tend to feature a lot of resistance work, too.

“My Personal Account Manager was so helpful and polite, answered all our questions and gave us time to make up our minds without pressure, which is important. He always called at the time he said he would, which for me was very professional. He was a pleasure to deal with.”
