Science behind skincare: How exercise can benefit your skin

Everyone knows that exercising is good for your health – it keeps you fit, helps to prevent excess weight-gain and can do wonders for your overall wellbeing. But did you know it also provides certain benefits for your skin, too?

How it works

Increasing the flow of blood around your body though exercise helps to provide nourishment to your skin cells. This in turn can help to keep them healthy, as well as assist your body to rid itself of any waste and dead skin cells it may be carrying.

Another way in which your body gets rid of waste and toxins is through sweating. When you exercise, sweating helps your body to keep cool, as well as clearing said toxins. This is also why it’s important to shower after exercising to properly wash away any remaining sweat, preventing the dirt from clogging up pores or causing infections.

As well as working to better your skin cells and clear toxins, exercising can be a great stress-buster. Relieving stress can help to alleviate certain skin conditions that are affected by it, such as eczema and acne. This can help skin to appear clearer and healthier overall.

Stress-relieving exercise is also thought to help you to get a proper night’s sleep, which can then help to keep your skin looking good, too. While you sleep, your body uses this time to rejuvenate and rebuild tissue, which is thought to help give you overall better-looking skin.

While exercising is good for your skin, it’s important to remember to protect it, too. Replenish lost water from exercise by drinking plenty of it during and after your workout, and if you’re exercising outdoors, it’s also essential to protect your skin against UV damage by wearing the appropriate level of sun protection cream.

“I have had the pleasure of speaking with my Personal Account Manager and it has been like a breath of fresh air. I entered the conversation prepared for the usual sales pitch and poor responses to questions and found the complete opposite. My Account Manager was friendly and interested in what I was looking for… it felt like I was buying from a friend”
