The science behind skincare

Food for healthy skin

It’s a fairly well-known fact that avoiding certain food types and having a healthy lifestyle can improve your overall health. Steering clear of particular foods can also help to improve your skin. However, this notion works both ways. As well as making your skin worse, certain foods have been known to make bad skin better, and the same goes for drinking water, too.

Fruit and veg

It may seem obvious, but eating five portions of fruit and vegetables can improve your skin. It is the antioxidants found in such foods that can help combat any wrinkles or age spots which may have been caused by the sun, pollution or smoking. The vitamin C found in some fruits can also help any imperfections to heal, as well as do wonders for your immune system.

Nuts, seeds and oils

The vitamin E in nuts, seeds and oils is another nutrient that can have great benefits for your skin. This vitamin helps your cells to maintain their structure, as well as supporting proper skin growth. You should be able to get all the vitamin E you need from your diet, and your body will store any that is not immediately needed for later use.

Good fats

Good fats can be a great source of nutrients to help keep your skin looking soft and feeling moisturised, as they help to maintain the natural oils found in the skin. These can be found in oily fish such as mackerel and salmon, as well as nuts including walnuts.

Drinks

Dehydration can be a common factor affecting the appearance of your skin. Drinking alcohol can cause your skin to become dehydrated, too. This can often result in your skin looking more tired and grey, so keeping hydrated with water is a good way to keep your skin looking at its best.

“My Personal Account Manager was so helpful and polite, answered all our questions and gave us time to make up our minds without pressure, which is important. He always called at the time he said he would, which for me was very professional. He was a pleasure to deal with.”
