Tech Focus: The Salutron LifeTrak BRITE R450
The LifeTrak BRITE R450 from Salutron is a new breed of device designed to monitor how much light you’re being exposed to and how well you’re sleeping, amongst other aspects of your general health. The watch can be used to monitor your heart rate, as well as keep track of your fitness levels with its activity tracker.
The heart rate monitor can be used to track how intense your activity is, as well as provide you with a more accurate reading of how many calories you have used. It also keeps a record of your steps, using a more precise sensor to determine the difference between walking, jogging and running.
The amount of daylight you need per day varies from person to person, depending on your skin type, the time of year and the time of day. The LightTrak function of the device is designed to determine how much blue light and how much white light you are exposing yourself to. It can also notify you of whether or not you’re getting too much of it, as well as not enough.
Being exposed to enough proper daylight has been known to be a viable treatment option for some people who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. The right amount of light each day can help to lift your mood, energy levels and induce a better night’s sleep.
The LifeTrak BRITE R450 can also monitor your sleep, and includes a vibrating alarm to wake you at the best time in your sleep cycle. As well as all this, the device also comes with an app so you can keep track of all the information it has recorded. The app can show you over a year’s worth of information, so it really does allow you to keep a detailed record of your daily health.
